Gorbal Beela (Body of Water) — Ngarngarnuditj is a collaborative, site-responsive artwork that acknowledges the sacred water systems of Wardandi Country. Conceived and created by Wardandi Elder Vivienne Brockman Webb, Cultural Custodian Mitchella Hutchins, artist Elaine Clocherty, the local Margaret River community, and The Farm, the work traces the journey of the Ngarngarnuditj Wagyl — the “Hairy-Faced Snake” — a powerful ancestral spirit who protects the water.
Sited around a natural soak at The Farm, the installation represents the Wagyl wearing a ceremonial headdress, mirroring the serpent’s path and reflecting the pattern of the waterway itself. The project invites reflection on the sacredness of water, the continuity of cultural knowledge, and our shared responsibility to care for Country.
